City councillor George Hollingbery has praised police action against three Winchester pubs
who sold alcohol to under 18s.
"I really do applaud the police for their latest crackdown on underage drinking in the city centre. "It is a campaign I have long asked for and I know the police in the city are now treating this issue very seriously because it is a problem.
"It is a fact that a large proportion of public disorder in Winchester is caused by underage drinkers and landlords need to get the message they cannot serve those them.
"This initiative, along with trading standards targeting city off-licences for underage drinking, is going to have a positive effect on the quality of life for many local people whose lives are blighted by rowdy behaviour and criminal damage caused by drink."
